When should I travel to Iceland for fishing and hunting?

Let's start planning your next adventure

Iceland is beautiful all year around. Each season has it's charm, but if you want to visit Iceland for fishing or hunting when is the best month to visit. Fishing season is from April to October. Goose hunting season is from end of August to December.

Prime time for sea trout in South and North Iceland is good. Fishing for Brown trout in lake Thingvellir open.

Sea trout rivers are still good. Brown trout is getting more interesting and some Arctic char areas are getting good.

Highland fishing starts and most of the lakes and trout streams are really good. Our first salmon rivers open early June and all have opened by the end of June. A few salmon rivers are quite interesting late June and NB! the large 2SW salmon are the first to arrive in the rivers.

All salmon rivers in Iceland get active and for most, prime time is at the end of July. Sea run Arctic char starts to run and gets really good.

August is a really good time for fishing in Iceland. All the salmon rivers are active and for some prime time is through August. Sea run Arctic char is very good in August and our Sea trout rivers come alive again. The goose season starts 20th of August but does not get very good until September.

Most salmon rivers close at the end of September, but still some rivers are "on fire" in September. Sea trout gets even better. Prime time for goose and duck hunting.

We fish for Sea trout until the 20th October, also a few salmon rivers close 20th October. Prime time for goose and duck hunting.

Ptarmigan season starts at the end of October and ends in November only 4 weekends

Sea angling is available May - September
