Salmon fishing in Iceland, Laxá in Dölum

Laxá in Dölum

Laxá in Dölum is without a doubt, one of the finest salmon river in Iceland. It is located in West Iceland, close to Budardalur town, in about 150 km from Reykjavik.

Laxá in Dölum is a wonderful, single handed rod river. It is a river where many have learned and improved their riffling hitch technic as it is perfect for this type of fishing. It is an amazing feeling letting the fly skating over the crystal clear pools and watch the salmon go after it.

There is about 25 km of fishing water with 33 marked and easy accessible pools. Prime time is mid July - August 20.

Number of salmon caught

  • 2016, 1.711 salmon
  • 2015, 1.578 salmon

In 2014 the river was changed to fly only and all 2SW salmon is released. This has been a major improvement for the river and made Laxá in Dölum one of the most productive river in Iceland.

2 rods are available, August 8 - 11 (afternoon - noon)
