Fishing in the north of Iceland
If you are planning on traveling to the north of Iceland we can highly recommend fishing in Skjalfandafljot river. It is one of the major rivers in the north of Iceland and originates in the biggest glacier in Europe, called Vatnajokull glacier.
This glacial river is famous for its many large waterfalls and big fishes and is often called the best kept secret of salmon rivers in Iceland. It is located in the heart of the north of Iceland and runs through Adaldalur just as her sister river Laxa in Adaldalur. Skjalfandafljot river is known for its good sized salmon and most anglers that fish it say it is hard to avoid it becoming one of their favorites. The extreme surroundings in this great canyon with the mixture of all types of water and is always challenging to fish. If you like hiking as well, it is definitely the place for you.
There are many interesting places close by, for example Husavik town, the famous Myvatnssveit with all its volcanic activity and the mighty Godafoss, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland.
The salmon season in Skjálfandafljót starts from June 18th and ends on September 18th.
