We have young children and we love to take them out fishing. Not to every river though, for our family we choose small self catering salmon/trout/char rivers or fishing in lakes for trout and char. Choosing the right "family fishing" location depends on the children's ages and interests. We will help you select the best fishing option to suit your family's needs and interests.
There are many rivers in Iceland which you can rent exclusively for you and your family. Rivers where 2-3 rods are fished at a time. Those rivers are perfect for you to teach children for a few hours a day and then the more devoted anglers of the family can fish early morning and late evenings.
Most of the small rivers come with a self catering lodge exclusively for the anglers fishing. As for lake fishing, there are many accommodation options, although most families choose to stay at a nice cottage nearby where they are fishing.
It is our experience that the most memorable part of the journey is catching a fish, no matter what size. It is the connection to nature and their capability of actually catching a fish for the family which makes the experience so satisfying and just so much fun.
My suggestion is to let them try at least two types of fishing, fresh water and sea fishing. We can prepare your catch for you for lunch or dinner.
If you are thinking of bringing your family to fish in Iceland, please allow us to offer suggestions of whats available here.
