Urridafoss waterfall, Sputnik of the salmon fishing in Iceland.
The biggest news of salmon fishing in Iceland for many years is the fishing in Urridafoss waterfall.
Urridafoss waterfall is located in South Iceland in a river called Thjorsá. Angling is not the first thing that comes to mind when crossing this huge river, but the largest wild salmon stock in Iceland is in Thjorsá. Thjorsá river has been netted ever since the vikings found salmon there and the netting has been very important for the landowners income.
It was two years ago, Iceland Outfitters and the landowners of Urridafoss decided to take up the nets and offer anglers to fish the waterfall.
It is safe to say that the first year (2017) was a success. We opened for the sale June 1st, the same day we opened the river and the fishing was fully booked few days later.
755 salmon were caught in 2017 on 2 rods.
The fishing started really well, we have a quota of 5 salmon per rod per day and most, if not all got their quota and many only after couple of hours of fishing. Best time for fishing is June, until mid/late July.
We are very proud to be a part of this change for Urridafoss waterfall. It is an important conservation program for the whole river system.
2018 season is NOW open for reservations
- 4 rods beat (2 in the waterfall and 2 fish above/below)
- 3 hour rotation
- Opening day, MAY 27, 2018
- 2 rods sold together.
