Whale watching from Reykjavik harbour

Whale watching from Reykjavik harbour

Seeing those majestic creatures swimming in their natural environment is magnificent, there is nothing like it.

One of our experienced captains will welcome you at the Reykjavik harbour, behind Harpa culture house and happy to answer all the questions you have on the tour.

On board you can choose between few viewing platforms so everyone should find comfort on our tours. You can sit indoor, stay outside or even outside on the rooftop, all the viewing platforms are different from another but have good views to offer. There are basic toilet facilities on board.

The captain will sail from Reykjavik Harbour (behind Harpa cultural house) into Faxi Bay, where he will find good grounds for whale watching.

The most common whales to see are:

  • Minke whales
  • Harbour porpoises
  • White-beaked dolphins.

Every once in a while other species are spotted, such as:

  • Killer whales
  • Fin whales
  • Humpback whales
  • Blue whales

The whale watching season is from April 1st - October 31st, which is prime time for whale watching, with the wildlife in the bay booming. Please note that it is not possible to guarantee sightseeings as the nature is unpredictable, our success rate is though very high.

We advise all our guests to dress accordingly, as many know, the weather in Iceland can change rather quickly but our captains are very experienced with predicting the weather and makes sure that the tours are only operated under safe circumstances.

Included on the tour:

  • Refreshments
  • Sodas, water, coffee & tea
  • Rain coats

Optional (additional cost):

  • Transportation (Hotel - Harbour - Hotel)
  • Beer & wine

The most popular whale watching tour lasts for 4 hours. Guests can decide themselves if they would like to use the time for other activities too, such as sea angling and/or birdwatching. There is no extra cost when doing a combination of tours.
