The season start on Leira river
The spring in Iceland is prime time for sea trout fishing on many rivers, Leira river is one of them. Many of you might know Leira river, but for those who do not, it is a beautiful, small 2 rod salmon and sea trout river, located in Leirarsveit. It has prime time in the spring, late summer and fall. There is a small and cosy cottage standing on the riverbank, which anglers are allowed to use free of charge. The river is fly only and all fish has to be released. Leira river has been performing better and better each year, the last few years, so there is a lot of excitement to see how it will perform this season.
The season started well on Leira, 7 sea trout were caught, despite the fish not being in action. The weather was not on the anglers sides, it was a cold and snowy day, but it of course never occurred to the anglers to let the weather stop them. The licenses for the first days of the season are usually booked months ahead, as most anglers have been waiting for months to go fishing again. It is always a bit of a risk weather-wise, as in Iceland the weather can be very unpredictable - but we have never had to cancel a tour due to weather. There is a saying: 'There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing'. You can always fish, just dress accordingly so you will enjoy it to the maximum.
So we cannot say anything else than the season started well on Leira river, with these anglers having great fun and catching 7 sea trout.
