Salmon season in Iceland opens on the 1st of April, when we start to fish for Sea trout, Brown trout and Arctic char.
The most popular spring fish is the Sea trout in rivers like Litlá, Varmá, Tungufljót and many more. Later, when the weather starts to get better, towards the end of April and early May Lake Thingvallavatn and other lakes come to life. There you can catch some decent size beautiful trout. The best-known lake, is Lake Thingvallavatn which has become world famous for its monster size Brown trout.
