Salmon fishing on Gaula river, Norway

FLY FISHING – NORWAY, GAULA FLY FISHING

Fly fishing for giant salmon on Gaula River. Iceland Outfitters offers the world class Gaula fly fishing lodge, which has a prolific private 6,1 km long fly fishing beat on the middle section of Gaula river, both sides of the famous Gaulfossen and north from Stören. The beat consists altogether of 4,5 kilometers of East bank and 1,6 km of West bank. The beat fishes well in all the different water levels. The largest fish caught in recent years on our beats was a 20,8 kg salmon caught from the Bruahölen pool. The average size of salmon is 5-7 kg.

GAULA

Gaula is one of the best salmon rivers in Norway and flows into the Atlantic Ocean close to Trondheim. It is famous for its giant size salmon, the biggest are approximately 20 kilos. The annual catch in a good year from the Gaula river varies between 30-50 tons of salmon.

GAULA FLY FISHING – ROTATION

Guests fish our beautiful private Gaula fly fishing beats situated in the middle section of the Gaula river, downstream from Stören and 30-40 km from the Atlantic Ocean. Altogether approx 4,5 km of East bank and 1,6 km of West bank of the famous Gaula river. The maximum number of anglers fishing our beats is between 12 and 20. The guests are divided into 3-5 fishing groups each made up of four people.. Each group of 4 people have their own beat at a time and the beats are rotated between fishing groups every six hours. The stretches of river are divided in 5 fly fishing beats. Beat 1, Rostad and Sanden. Beat 2: Bruahölen, Svingen and Rönningen. Beat 3: Vollan and Röskaft. Beat 4: Stasjonshölen. Beat 5: Evjenöra and Evjen.

For the first two weeks in June, June 1st -6th and the 6th -13th the maximum number of anglers will be reduced to 16 which are equally divided into 4 groups. During those periods, 1st-6th June and 6th-13th June 2015 we will combine beats 1 and 2 into one beat 1/2. During this period our 16 fishermen fish 2 beats below Gaulfossen (Beat 3 – Röskaft, Beat 5 – Evjenöra, Evjen) and 2 beats above Gaulfossen (Beat 1/2 and Beat 3/4). During those early two weeks each person has the opportunity to fish every day, 12 hours below Gaulfossen and 12 hours above.
