Fnjoska river

Fnjoska river is truly one of Iceland’s most beautiful rivers. It is located in Eyjafjordur, ca. 20 km from Akureyri in Northern Iceland. On Icelandic standards the river is quite large and perfect for fly fishing with a double handed rod. The river is long and powerful, with long, broad, rocky pools and a dramatic canyon near the bottom. The surroundings around Fnjoska river are some of the most beautiful and scenic in whole Iceland. It is undoubtedly one of our favourite salmon rivers, with a 10 year average catch of around 500 salmon per year and plenty of arctic char. The river is crystal clear and flows through a beautiful valley with a mixed combination of bushes, grawl and grass. In total the river is around 117 km long, but the salmon fishing area spans 40 km, divided to 4 beats. which are fished on 8 rotating rods in total, so there is a plenty of space for each angler.

It is a great idea to combine fishing in Fnjoska river with the the majestic Skjalfandafljot river or even experience the mid-highland fishing in the North. If you are interested in trying out more than one fishing location we will gladly give you some ideas.

The Fnjoska river lodge

The Fnjoska lodge consists of 4 brand new self catering cottages. Each cottage is quite small but has two twin bedrooms and small kitchen/dining facilities. Every two rods share one cottage. There is also a brand new service house which offers anglers a fully furnished kitchen, dining area and a living room.

Fnjoska river is located close to Akureyri town, so if anglers are more interested in staying at hotels or other kind of accommodation there are a lot of options to choose from.
