Where to fish?
West Ranga
West Rangá is one of the best salmon river in Iceland. Fished with 12 – 18 rods and a really good fishing lodge. West Rangá is located in South Iceland about 1 hour drive from Reykjavik.
Hólsá West bank
Hólsá is a 4 rod river, attached to West Rangá. It is the part including the beat Borg and all the way to the river mouth.
There is a basic but nice 4 bedroom lodge that goes with Hólsá.
Laxa in Dolum
Laxa in Dolum is one of those crystal clear salmon rivers Iceland is famous for. With only 4-6 rods, it is the perfect choice for large families, friends or companies.

Lake Thingvellir provides us with a fly fishing wonder. The “Ice age brown trout” can grow up to extreme sizes, with reports every year recording trout up to 30 pounds.
Urridafoss waterfall
Urridafoss waterfall has one of the biggest wild salmon stock in Iceland. Thjorsa river is majestic and is the longest river in Iceland or about 230 km from source to sea.

Fishing in Hólaá river for trout and char.
Leira river is a beautiful, 2-rod salmon and sea trout river located in Leirarsveit, 40 min from Reykjavik. Matthias caught this one in April last year.

Harpa: What is the best fly to use in Leirá? I should ask instead, what plank is best for Leirá to heat the river up? This was last year. Spring fishing is approaching!

We had a few warm days, but now the frost has been coming back. When it´s frosty, the air becomes clear, and the winter light creates evenings like this one.
This one was caught in Hólsá West Bank. All salmon that runs up to East and West Ranga rivers go trough Hólsá, and you can have amazing fishing. The average catch is around 500 salmon per season.
