Take in the Urriðafoss waterfall fishing adventure
Great memories are created at Urriðafoss waterfall

Urridafoss waterfall

Urridafoss waterfall has one of the biggest wild salmon stock in Iceland. More water flows over the Urridafoss waterfalls in the Thjorsa river than any other Icelandic waterall. Thjorsa river is majestic and is the longest river in Iceland or about 230 km from source to sea.

Urridafoss waterfall holds many fun and adventurous fishing spots, it is full of life and offers a different kind of salmon fishing.

The fishing in Urridafoss is the most interesting thing that has happened to the fishing in Iceland for a long time.

2017 was the first year the waterfall opened for fishing with a rod, but before that all the salmon caught there was by the farmers nets. The nets have now been replaced with anglers but this is a joint adventure between the landowners of Urridafoss and Iceland Outfitters.

Best fishing in Iceland, number of salmon per rod

In 2017 anglers fished 765 salmon on only 2 rods and there was a limit to 5 salmon per rod per day, and for the first 45 days most, if not all anglers caught their quota and many in already in the morning.

From 2018 there will be 4 rods fishing Urridafoss. 2 rods fishin the waterfall itself and 2 rods fishing above and below the waterfall. There is a 3 hour rotation and a quota of 5 salmon per rod per day.

The prices are quite fair compared to other salmon fishing in Iceland and many anglers are taking all 4 rods privately for them selfs when fishing there.

Urridafoss waterfall accommodation

There is a small and basic hut by the river which anglers can use for the day but it is not suitable for accommodation. There are several accommodation options in the area. Please ask us for an advice.

We recommend anglers to fish Urridafoss for 1-2 days, it is also a perfect addition to our many other salmon and trout rivers in Iceland.
