Thingvellir is a historical site; it’s known for the establishment of Althing in 930 BCE, one of the oldest national parliaments in the world. The park is also a geological site, as it is located in a rift valley where the continental drift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates can be seen.
Geysir geothermal area is the location of the Great Geysir from which the word „geyser“ is derived. Strokkur is a very dependable geyser and erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, spouting water 30 meters into the air, whereas the Great Geysir erupts very rarely. Moreover, the area has about 40 smaller hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles.
Gullfoss waterfall is located in the canyon of Hvitá River in southwest Iceland and is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Iceland.
In addition to those most popular stops, we add some of the less-known ones.
Faxi waterfall is a little cascade hidden from the road, but picturesque and serene.
