Sverrir guide, Team Iceland Outfitters
Get to know our Team Iceland Outfitters
Many of you might know some of our team quite well, but here you will have the chance to get to know more of us and those you already know, a bit better. We’d like to introduce Sverrir, one of our brilliant guides often referred to as the “fish whisperer” by our clients, particularly those interested in arctic char fishing in Iceland. He is our most knowledgeable guide; many regulars have enjoyed fishing with him.
Sverrir’s love of fishing began at age five when his father took him on an arctic char fishing trip on the Hörgá River in northern Iceland. He has been hooked on fishing ever since and has even passed on his addiction to his son. He primarily used to fish for Arctic char throughout northern Iceland, so it is still his favourite fish to pursue.
In Iceland, he finds arctic char fishing particularly difficult and technical, which is what he seeks when fishing.
However, depending on his mood and the circumstances, he also enjoys trout and salmon fishing. For him, the moments and experiences are more important than the sizes and species of fish. He believes that the best moments are the most memorable.
During the three summer months, Sverrir spends at least 60 days in his waders, either guiding or fishing with good company. He has fished for arctic char in 63 rivers in Iceland and is still counting! One of the best parts of fishing, he says, is that even after a long day of exhaustion, you can start smiling for no reason, and that’s when you know it was a perfect day.
